Nancy A. Kintisch hails from New York City and has always been an artist. Although she is a painter by nature and a “decorator” by trade, she came to Los Angeles in 1989 in order to be nearer to the decorative jobs she seemed to be attracting.

Her career as a decorative artist flourished in Los Angeles and out of her love of textiles, pattern, and color, her fabric company grew. In fact, on a weekend jaunt to Las Vegas, she remarked to several of her friends, “I’m going to start a fabric company”. And in 1994, after one year of phone calls and research, and, with the help of her printer, Off-White Castle Studio was born.

OWCS began with four patterns that were originally wall stencils designed for decorative jobs. Her hand-drawn and hand-cut stencils became the “signature look” of her fabric line. Each design is hand painted on large sheets of plastic in individual color separations. These are then photographed and converted into silk screens or rotary screens. The nuances of color and texture remain from the original hand painted designs. A bit old-fashioned, no computer art is ever used and all fabrics are hand printed.

When designers for large hotels and resorts became aware of the unique quality of her fabrics, Nancy learned the process of converting her designs for the commercial market. Any design can be translated into rotary screens; thereby lowering the cost of production and enabling the use of commercial grade fabrics.

Nancy continues to design fabrics, consult with decorators, architects, and designers, and to oversee the execution of decorative arts for the discerning eye in her capacity as chief cook and bottle washer of Kintisch Decorative Arts: www.kintischdecorativearts.com
